Picture Prompt
Shimmering Path Creative Writing Prompt
The glowing lights sweep and swirl across the grass, bright enough to guide you but strange enough to make your pulse skip. They move as if they’re alive, stretching forward, curling back, and waiting for your decision. You stand alone in the fog-filled valley, the only human in sight, with the lights twisting like a question at your feet.
Your task is to write about the moment you make your choice:
Do you follow the shimmering path… or do you turn back?
If you follow the lights, you could explore:
- what the lights look like up close: colours, movement, heat or cold
- how the valley changes the deeper you walk
- the first sign that the lights are leading you somewhere
- a shift in the lights that makes you realise this is bigger than you expected
If you turn back, you could explore:
- the moment you realise something feels wrong or unfamiliar
- how your surroundings change as you retreat
- whether the lights react to your decision
- what waits for you back at the edge of the valley (a warning? a message? a new clue?)
