Horizons

Dear Adventurers,

Sometimes, life feels like one big open path waiting for you to roll forward into something new. Meet our young explorer, a curious kid who loves discovering fresh sights and experiences, often with a friend or two. Sometimes, you’ll find them gliding along a shaded boardwalk under tall trees or quietly fishing at sunset on a peaceful lake. Other times, they’re perched on a dock at the base of a magnificent mountain, soaking in the crisp alpine air. And who knows, perhaps their next outing will lead them to a bustling amusement park or even a dazzling underwater observatory!

In this Choose Your Own Adventure, you decide where your explorer goes next and what challenges or discoveries await. Their wheelchair is simply part of who they are, like wearing sneakers or carrying a favourite backpack. It never stops them from chasing excitement and soaking up every bit of wonder around them. Will they:

1. Awe at the Mountain ⛰️
Crisp alpine air brushes your face, and endless peaks rise against the sky. Will you tackle a winding trail, snap the perfect sunset photo, or forge a new friendship on a shared hike? Who knows what inner strength might awaken when you stand at the edge of the clouds?
2. Cruise the Lake ⛵
Soft ripples lap against the dock, a gentle invitation to explore the water. A sleek sailboat bobs nearby—will you venture out alone or gather a few friends to help steer? Drift past hidden coves, watch for darting fish below, and feel the wind guide your course. Who knows what stories might unfold as you glide across the open lake?
3. Thrills at the Amusement Park 🎢
Music and laughter burst through the gates, and the scent of cotton candy sets your heart racing. Will you test your courage on the tallest ride, aim for a high score at the arcade, or join a friend for a spin on the carousel? Who knows what new bonds or unexpected adventures lie ahead?
4. Dive into the Undersea 🤿
Vibrant coral reefs and shimmering fish drift past the glass walls, drawing you into their watery world. Will you peer into hidden caverns, pilot a small submersible, or team up with a fellow explorer to uncover ocean mysteries? Who knows what marvels or hidden truths await beneath the waves?
5. Game On at the Park 🌳
Morning light filters through tall trees, and wildflowers dot the path with bursts of colour. Up ahead, friends gather at the basketball court, passing a ball around. Will you join their pickup game, toss a frisbee, or show off your moves in a round of wheelchair rugby? Who knows what new faces you’ll meet or which hidden talents might surface once the fun begins?
6. Hook a New Story by the Lake 🎣
Sunlight shimmers on rippling water, and a gentle breeze carries the scent of pine. Will you cast a fishing line, roast marshmallows over a small campfire, or share stories with new friends by the shore? Who knows what secrets or personal discoveries might surface along this tranquil edge?

Before diving into your adventure, we recommend doing some group brainstorming to help spark your creativity and imagination. Here are some questions to discuss with your fellow adventurers:

As you craft your narrative, remember that our adventurer’s wheelchair is simply a part of them, much like having brown hair or green eyes, something that doesn’t limit their ability to explore and dream. Focus on the wonder of each location, the joy of discovering new paths, and the small moments of connection with the world around them.

With every page turn, you decide where the journey leads next. Will they reel in a surprising catch, spot a rare bird in the park, or stumble upon a hidden cove beneath the carnival rides? The possibilities are endless, so let your creativity spin the wheel and see where your adventure takes you!

Bon Voyage,

Lucy
