Story Behind the Image Writing Prompt

At first glance, this image almost looks like an advertisement. But what could it be advertising? A travel company selling adventure? A brand of hiking gear showing how amazing their clothes look outdoors? Maybe even a video game that mixes city life and nature?

Creative Brief (Writing Task)

Before you design, write a short creative brief that explains the plan for your ad. Your brief should include:

  • Product or idea this picture could be selling (hiking boots, travel experiences, a new game, a mindfulness app, etc.)
  • Target audience (kids, teens, adults, travellers, gamers, etc.)
  • Core feeling to spark (freedom, peace, adventure, escape, excitement)
  • One-sentence promise (what will this product or idea deliver?)
  • Mood words and colours that fit the ad’s vibe
  • Slogan or tagline
  • Call to action (what should people do next?)
  • Where it will appear (billboard, Instagram post, magazine cover, short video ad)

Design the Ad (Extension Task)

Now, turn your brief into the finished ad.

  • Create a brand or company name to go with it.
  • Lay out the ad as it might look in your chosen format (billboard, Instagram post, magazine cover).
  • Use the slogan and call to action from your brief.
  • Add a short script or voiceover if it’s for a video version.
  • Make sure every element: words, colours, layout, images, matches your plan and persuades the audience.
